Holt Avenue - Update 22/05/10
Written by Dr Barrie Hopson

“I have asked the action team to continue with their preparations as if the Inquiry was to begin on Tuesday. This will ensure that we are fully equipped when the Inquiry goes ahead in the future as it probably will.

It is vital to get as many  petition signatures from across Adel as we can. We managed over 1000 to ensure that we did not lose our surgery and pharmacy and over the next few weeks we will be ensuring that petitions are available to sign to register your protest against this awful proposal. The traffic implications alone are mind blowing even before we begin to focus on what it will do to the important green space near our historic church.

I will let you know where in Adel you can find the petitions in the next week or so.

Can you please pass this news on to anyone that you know who might have been thinking about attending the Inquiry next week beginning Tuesday and ending on Wednesday June 2.

Don't go to the Civic Hall!!   So far so good! So let us now enjoy the sunshine and our green fields.”

Holt Avenue - David Wilson Homes (Update 21/05/10)
Written by Publisher

Communication from The Planning Inspectorate:-

We have decided to postpone the inquiry following the publishing of the Government's "our programme for government" document yesterday.  The LPA and appellant requested the postponement and the attached e-mails set out their position.  The Government has stated it will "rapidly abolish Regional Spatial Strategies" but it is not yet clear what the position will be once the RSS are done away with or how long this will take.  This has some significant implications both for the way the parties present their cases and how the Inspector assesses the evidence and we wish to see what the Government has in mind before we proceed.

I'll make sure you are informed of the new arrangements for the inquiry although I expect it will be a couple of months or more before it takes place.

This is excellent news but please be aware that the Inquiry could still go ahead in a couple of months.

Holt Avenue - David Wilson Homes (Update 18 April 2010)
Written by Cllr Barry Anderson

I refer to the above and am writing to let you know that a Public Inquiry has been arranged to review the appeal from David Wilson Homes for the land north of Holt Avenue.

Planning permission for the “laying out of access roads and the erection of 70 dwellings with garages and landscaping” was originally refused, however, it will now be decided by an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment.

The Public Inquiry will be held from 25th May 2010 at Leeds Civic Hall starting at 10:00 am.

Police's 'Zero Tolerance' Warning To Youths, Adel, Leeds

Thursday, April13, 2010

More than 40 youths have been stopped and warned by police as part of an operation to clamp down on anti-social behaviour around a derelict site in Adel.

Officers from the North West Outer Neighbourhood Policing Team focused their attention on the site of the old Eastmoor approved school in Tile Lane at the weekend following a number of recent incidents.

Groups of up to 30 youths have been meeting up at the site - with the gatherings apparently being arranged on the internet - and residents living nearby have been threatened and damage caused.

Bogus Charity Collection - 'Helpmates'
Written by Anita Langley

HOUSEHOLDERS are warned not to be taken in by a charity scam which "takes advantage of people's good natures."

A company called Helpmates Limited has been putting flyers through letterboxes asking for donations of clothes, shoes and other items which can be left on doorsteps and then sent to the Third World.

Although not explicitly claiming to be a charity, concerns have been raised that the company's literature might make people think they are giving to a charitable organisation.  Check out this link for further details.  Here is the Westminster debate details
