Adel Reformatory Update

As your local MP and local campaigner, we are writing to update you about the issue of the Adel Reformatory and the plans for the replacement of the Adel Secure Unit at the Eastmoor site.

You may have heard the excellent news that the Adel Reformatory buildings have now been granted Grade II listed status.

Bogus Charity Collection - 'Helpmates'

HOUSEHOLDERS are warned not to be taken in by a charity scam which "takes advantage of people's good natures."

A company called Helpmates Limited has been putting flyers through letterboxes asking for donations of clothes, shoes and other items which can be left on doorsteps and then sent to the Third World.

Although not explicitly claiming to be a charity, concerns have been raised that the company's literature might make people think they are giving to a charitable organisation.  Check out this link for further details.  Here is the Westminster debate details

Planning - New Public Access Site

Community Space Project - February Update

The Project has been on hold for the last two months.  The land is currently partly owned by WNWHL and part by the Council's Parks and Leisure Dept and we need authorisation from both to proceed with the project.

Initial meetings had indicated their support but following representations from Adel Crag Association to WNWHL we have had a number of other meetings to try to resolve the issues they have raised.

Holt Avenue - David Wilson Homes - Update (February 1)

I have been advised today that an appeal has been received by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government from David Wilson Homes for the site north of Holt Avenue (ref. no. APP/N4720/A/09/2119622. This appeal will be dealt with by Public Inquiry and I will contact you later with the exact date and time of the public inquiry.

If you have commented on this application before your comments will be forwarded to the Planning Inspectorate and taken into account unless marked confidential, or withdrawn.

Extended Services North West (ESNW) is the name for the local cluster of schools and Ireland Wood Children's Centre.  Extended Services are at the heart of the local community.  Click here to visit their website

We respond to the needs of children, young people and families in the local area
We provide information and access to a range of services and activities:

- access to quality childcare between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m.
- a wide range of activities
- access to support and services for children and young people
- space and facilities for community use
- advice and information for parents and carers

A History of Adel - New Book Published

Work has now started on the repair of Adel Bell Tower but we still have a large amount of money to raise to pay for the necessary repair work.

An illustrated History of Adel book has been compiled by local historian Val Crompton and is sold in aid of Adel Bell Tower Fund.  It is an A5 book with over 240 drawings and photos - price £5.  The books are on sale at North Leeds Life office, 265a Otley Road, West Park, Leeds LS16 5LN and also at Adel Wood Stores, Sir George Martin Road, Adel, Leeds LS16
